Your brain controls everything so these are the things that have created the current state of our body, yet they are the things that are completely ignored whenever we attempt to diet or exercise the weight away.

 Let’s take a look at each of the elements…

1. HABITS

 

The more you act in a certain way, especially if what you’re doing feels good as in the case of allowing yourself to eat things that you previously restricted because of whatever diet you were on, the more you teach your brain that what you’re doing is actually essential for survival.

Once that happens, your brain begins to wire itself in such a way that it creates urgency, compulsions and strong desires that force you to continue the habit literally on autopilot.

So, the root of the food compulsions that keep us battling our weight, the ones that so often have us finding ourselves falling off track of diet attempts or regaining weight when we do manage to lose it, lies in the circuitry responsible for detecting threats. All that means is that the compulsion to “cheat” on your diet, over eat or binge comes from the threat of starving.

2. MINDSET

 

In simplest terms mindset can be described as a set of assumptions, beliefs, or views. 

 

All of the thoughts we think, stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we're capable of and what we're worth contribute to a mindset that either sets us up for failure (as in diet mindset) or success (ditching diet mindset and rewriting your stories) because they create feelings.

It's not just our autopilot habits that determine our actions and behavior, it's also the feelings that are actually created by our mindset/thoughts.

3. BEHAVIORS

 

Every time we jump on another new diet, we take into each new attempt all the same habits and mindsets that have contributed to behaviors that have caused them to not be successful in the past.

See, it's our habits and mindset that contribute to our behaviors that ultimately determine our weight loss success or failure, not whatever diet we decide to try next.

So they just keep failing us. 

Because the only thing diets focus on are food and restrictions that make us miserable. They are not addressing the three key elements that caused the problem.
